Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 1

Activity 1 Arriving in New Zealand

3 facts about Maui
1. Maui is the youngest of 3 brothers.
2. Maui made a strong fishing rod out of flax
3. His grandmothers name is Grandmother Murirangawhenua

Activity 2 Setting Sail

Dear Myha

I have some cool news to tell you I am on my way to move to America. So far the ride over the sea is amazing I can see all the cool underwater animals. I am with My Sister and my Brother. I am feeling a bit sea sick so my older Sister told me to write a letter to get my mind of it it seems to be helping I can smell sea salt and grossness. I can also see land and islands there are heaps of other boats and a lot of waka's.

Sincerely Sophie

  1. Hi Sophie!

My name is Ellee and I will be blogging with you this summer for the Summer Learning journey!

Great to see you've made a start on the week one activities, well done!

    Activity One:
You've done such good job of identifying some facts about Maui, I didn't know that Grandmother Murirangawhenua was Maui's grandmother.
I feel like I can relate to Maui in this story being the youngest, I also have older siblings that boss me around! What did you think about Maui's brothers?

    Activity two:
Wow! what a great letter for your friend Myha, I'm sure she would have been happy to read it. I also like that you could see the sea creatures from your boat! Did you see any turtles? they're my favourite!
Where in America were you moving to in your letter?

    Bonus Activity:
I'm glad you would love to be in a Waka Ama race, why do you think it would put you outside your comfort zone?
I think I would also like to try a Waka Ama race because I love working in a team and I also love the water, especially the beach!

Thanks for writing a great post for your day one activities Sophie! I really enjoyed reading your responses and your rainbow writing!

Looking forward to your next post!
    Ellee :)

    1. Hi Ellee
Thanks for commenting on my blog.
Well I am the middle child in my family and my older sister is a teenager so she can be bossy sometimes. I would hate to have 2 older sisters. I am moving to Washington DC in the letter Myha is actually my best-friend. I will get out of my comfort zone because I have never done anything like it before I have never been on a boat or a kayak or a waka before I have only been on a jet ski and drove it. I love colors so I decided to write in rainbow.

    3. Hi Sophie!

No problem for the comments, I really enjoyed reading your acitvities!
I hope your older sister isnt too bossy!haha that's really cool that you have a younger sister too.
That's so you've written to your real best friend! hopefully she will get to read it? Washington DC is a beautiful place, have you been there before?
Oh coooooooollllll!! I've never been on a jet ski! that's awesome! I am sure with that experience you would be fine in a waka (it's be much slower!)
I love the colours Sophie, it is nice to see such a colourful post!

Thanks for your response - looking forward to reading your new ones next!

  2. Hi Ellee
She can be bossy a lot but she can also be nice and friendly which is the side of her that I love. I have not been to Washington DC infact I have never left the country I have only been to the north island. I am glad that a waka is much slower because the jet ski was so fast.
